Driver charged after deadly pedestrian accident in west Houston

Marcos Frias Velasquez, 71, has been arrested and charged in a fatal accident in west Houston.

A man is dead after he was walking along a road in west Houston and was hit by a vehicle. The driver has been charged with driving while intoxicated.

Investigators say the victim was walking along Allum Road and Player around 10:55am when he was struck by a gold Pontiac Montana traveling westbound. The male victim, 48, died at the scene.

Authorities say a witness identified Marcos Frias Velasquez, 71, as the driver of the Pontiac. He was taken into custody at the scene. Further investigation determined he was intoxicated. He has been charged with driving while intoxicated.

The victim's identity hasn't been released.

The investigation is continuing.
