Texans QB derby underway; Watt makes statement

HOUSTON

Matt Schuab's leg and ankle injuries kept him out of practice Wednesday, so TJ Yates and Case Keenum split the first team reps. Sunday's starter is now anyone's guess.

Schaub told us he's made progress and he still hopes to play.

As for Watt, no questions on Wednesday, just one statement.

"I apologize for the concise statement and the lack of answering questions," he said. "But that's all I can do, honestly. I don't have words for y'all. Just work. I'm just going to work and like I said, the fans want results. And that's what I'm gonna try to give them. Hopefully I answer all of your questions with my play on the field. And if there's any further questions, I'll see y'all Sunday after the game."

The Texans as a team are trying to figure out why the wheels are coming off.

"I've been around a few teams that got in a funk, turned the ball over and made mistakes," said Texans head coach Gary Kubiak. "This has been very, very difficult. We worked on it. We actually added a couple of things in practice to focus on it, not only physically, but mentally, just talking about some different things that can help us, work through some mistake-free football for a change."

Kubiak says he can wait until Sunday to make a decision on quarterback Matt Schaub's availability, but until then, Case Keenum and TJ Yates will split the reps.
