The Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office says that in August, Alyssia Renee Perkins, 20, allegedly struck up a conversation via Instagram, Skype and text messaging with the girl. The conversations quickly became sexual in nature when Perkins allegedly sent nude images of herself to the 12-year-old and also solicited nude images of the child.
Authorities say the conversations turned into what the Perkins felt was a relationship. Once the victim's mother learned of these inappropriate exchanges, authorities were notified.
Perkins traveled to Houston on Friday from San Diego, California, apparently wishing to meet with the girl's mother to assure her she was not a threat to the victim. Investigators intervened and upon learning of Perkins' travel plans, were able to intercept her prior to the meeting at Perkins' hotel in the Greenspoint area.
Perkins provided a statement to investigators in which they say she acknowledged that she was aware of the victim's age and that what she was doing was inappropriate. The defendant was arrested without incident and placed in the Harris County jail. She is charged with two counts of online solicitation of a minor.
Authorities remind parents to monitor their children's internet access.
