Woman jailed for robbing east Houston store, assaulting security guard

HOUSTON

It happened September 15 at the Fallas Paredes discount store in a shopping center in the 11000 block of the East Freeway.

According to a sworn affidavit signed by a Houston police department officer, 21-year-old Porsha LaShae Branch went into Fallas Paredes and began stuffing items into her purse.

Court documents state that a loss prevention officer saw Branch stealing the items and followed her outside as she got into a vehicle and tried to get away.

Police said the loss prevention officer grabbed Branch's purse and asked her to come back inside and return the items. That's when, according to investigators, Branch got upset and tried to run over the officer with her vehicle.

Branch drove onto a sidewalk along the wall of the store in attempt to hit the loss prevention officer. She was aided by passers-by, who restrained the loss prevention officer. According to police, they thought he had assaulted Branch.

While the officer was restrained, Branch reportedly got out of her car and began assaulting him. She tried to get her purse back, but couldn't. She got back into her car and fled the scene.

Branch was arrested and booked into Harris County Jail on Wednesday. She was charged with robbery causing bodily injury and was being held Thursday without bond.
