The Orange County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday afternoon announced the death of 55-year-old Joda Lewis Atchley of Orange.
A spokesman for the sheriff's department on Wednesday didn't immediately provide details on why Atchley had been jailed since Sept. 11.
Sgt. Chad Hogan says Atchley on Sept. 18 suffered a medical emergency while at the Orange County Correctional Facility. Medical officials determined he had bleeding on the brain. Atchley was examined at hospitals in Orange and Beaumont before being moved to a hospital in Houston, where the inmate died Sept. 19.
Texas Rangers are investigating the death.
