The HPD cruiser collided with a red van just before 5:30pm at the intersection of the South Loop East and Gulf Freeway southbound feeder roads.
Authorities blocked the area while they investigated the scene. There is no word on the condition of the officer.
A woman in the SUV suffered minor injuries, officials said. Two others were with her, but we're told no one was seriously hurt.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
