Westfield HS coach accused of sex with teen

HOUSTON

Police say they began investigating after a 17-year-old student went to her mother, claiming to be involved in a sexual relationship with a teacher and coach at the high school. Now that man has been charged and he's on paid administrative leave.

Shae McCutchen, 34, is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student at Westfield High School, where he is a football coach and health teacher.

Student Natalie Gipson said, "When I heard about it, I was terrified. I was like, this is crazy. You're supposed to come to school to learn, not come to school and have relationships with adults."

According to court documents, a 17-year-old student told police she met McCutchen at a local sandwich shop on June 21. The girl says the teacher then drove her to his house where they had sex.

"Disturbing that you bring your kids to school and expect them to be safe and things like this happen," said parent Chris Brown.

Court documents portray a long courtship. The student says she met McCutchen while visiting his health class. She says he later gave her candy and a birthday card, then the two started communicating on their cell phones.

"It's ridiculous," Brown said. "Home schooling sounds a whole lot better right now."

Nobody answered McCutchen's door when we knocked. The school district has placed him on paid administrative leave. He's been working for the district since 2004. His bond has been set at $10,000.
