Activists arrested in downtown Houston while protesting pipeline project

HOUSTON

The group organized an act of civil disobedience outside TransCanada headquarters. Thirteen protesters were arrested for misdemeanor trespassing.

Activists say the plan to build a pipeline from Canada to the Texas Gulf Coast will hurt the environment.

Protester Becky Bond said, "That pipeline is going to bring some of the dirtiest stuff on earth across the United States down here to Houston where it can be refined and shipped to Asia and burned. There's not a drop of oil from this pipeline is going to be brought into America unless it spills from this pipeline."

We are waiting for TransCanada to respond to our call for a comment. Those behind the pipeline call it a critical infrastructure project that will strengthen the American economy.
