Two men in jail after early morning graffiti art session near downtown Houston

HOUSTON

Police say the men were on the billboard at Rothwell and Walnut near downtown, spraying graffiti around 3:30am. They were spotted by someone who ended up calling 911.

"I think it was a passer-by who had seen these two gentlemen defacing this Clear Channel sign, which is about 70 feet in the air and they called the police," said Sgt. John Babineaux with the Houston Police Department.

Officers were just around the corner, so when they pulled up the men were still spraying. They came down on their own and were taken into custody.

Both of them will be charged with criminal mischief for causing about $1,500 in damages to the sign.

Firefighters had to be called to get some of the spray paint cans and ropes off the billboard.
