Police shoot suspect at end of chase in east Houston

HOUSTON

Investigators say the trouble all started just before 2pm Friday when officers spotted a suspicious person in the parking lot of an Academy sporting goods store on Market at Uvalde. Police say that man and a second person sped from the scene when officers approached.

A chase began and ultimately ended with the suspect vehicle flipping on its side on the East Freeway feeder road near Normandy.

At some point, a gun was thrown on the roof of a nearby business. The fire department had to be called in with a ladder truck to help retrieve the gun from the building.

Police tell us an officer did shoot one man. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition. A second person was taken into custody.

Police are interviewing several witnesses from the tire shop back where the gun was found. We've also noticed detectives searching the grass in the area, possibly looking for additional evidence.
