Harris County authorities say the suspect, 30-year-old Chad Strong, ran from Precinct 7 officials sometime before 8pm near the 1200 block of Baker Street.
Strong had been arrested on a charge of unlawful used of motor vehicle and was being removed from the patrol vehicle when he somehow managed to get away.
Authorities from the Harris County Sheriff's Office, Houston Police Department an a K-9 unit immediately began actively searching for him in the area along the bayou and the Spaghetti Warehouse on Commerce Street but eventually it called off about two hours later.
Strong was described only as a black male with deadlocks. He was wearing a white muscle shirt and colorful pajama bottoms.
No other details were immediately available.
