On Sunday, dancing pros will be teamed up with second baseman Jose Altuve, pitchers Jarred Cosart and Dallas Keuchel, infielder Jake Elmore and outfielder Trevor Crowe for the competition. The couples will have one hour to learn a dance routine and perform it front of the judges -- fellow Astros teammates -- at the Main Music Hall at the House of Blues in downtown Houston.
The event was created to help announce a new partnership with The Astros Foundation Urban Youth Academy and Minute Maid to increase outreach to at-risk youth.
"Our community partnership with the Astros is Minute Maid's Grand Slam for Youth Baseball, which in the past has provided an opportunity for thousands of Greater Houston area youth to learn about and play baseball in a safe environment," said Mike Saint John, president of Minute Maid. "This newly expanded outreach with The Astros Foundation at the Urban Youth Academy will allow us to serve even more kids in the years to come."
"The Astros have long been proud to carry Minute Maid's name on our ballpark," said Astros President Reid Ryan. "Now with this expanded charitable outreach with the Astros Foundation, Minute Maid is once again stepping up to the plate and helping kids here in Houston."
Doors to the Main Music Hallwill open at 6pm for a private reception, and the show will begin at approximately 7pm. Advanced ticket purchase is required, as tickets will not be available for purchase at the door to the event. Ticket information is available at www.astros.com/dancing or by calling 713-259-8851 before Friday.
Proceeds from the event will benefit The Astros Foundation.
