Woman shot, killed during gameroom robbery in southeast Houston

HOUSTON

It happened around 6:45pm at Monroe Game Room in the 8500 block of Almeda Genoa near Forbes.

These places are often open 24 hours, but this one looked to be closed this morning after a violent night witnessed by several people.

According to the Houston Police Department, two suspects parked down the street from the gameroom and were let in by a security guard at the door.

"There is a security guard at the door who monitors the patrons in and out," E.P. Zugner with HPD Homicide said. "Once you get inside you're in; one entrance, one exit."

Once inside, one of the two suspects was caught on surveillance video, pointing a gun at employees.

Police say the man fired one shot, hitting a woman who works at the gameroom, and then took off. That woman, who was in her mid-30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Two Hispanic males entered the establishment, attempted to rob the establishment of cash," Zuniga said. "There was a single gunshot and the two males exited the establishment."

Police are asking for your help tracking down the armed suspect seen on camera. He was wearing a gray T-shirt with a red Chicago Bulls baseball cap. If you recognize him or have any information on this crime, you are asked to call HPD Homicide or Crime Stoppers.

This shooting comes on the heels of another at a southeast Houston gameroom just hours earlier. In that shooting, an attempted robbery suspect was shot and transported to a hospital.

Police tell us these two crimes do not appear to be related. Please stay with Eyewitness News for the latest details.
