The Lamar Redskins came oh so close last season. 15-1, that one loss in the State Championship game to Allen brings the Redskins back more determined than ever. Lamar Head Coach Tom Nolen says expectations are high but the team kind of has a target on their backs.. Senior Safety John Bonney adds the team has worked hard this summer to get back to that point. Three year starting Quarterback Darrell Colbert knows the Redskins snuck up on some teams last season but no one will take them lightly this year.

The Redskins are looking to take a step forward this year and they have some great senior leadership to get it done, starting with Colbert and Bonney. The two have been friends since middle school and they compete against each other in everything. Practices are full of noise talking. Colbert the Redskins offensive leader, Bonney the defensive leader, they take pride in pushing each other to be the best. That competitiveness brings out their best and Coach Nolen now in his 29th year at Lamar, 40 plus on the sidelines sees it making everyone better. It filters down the the younger players.

Young players, Veteran coach, a winning combination at Lamar. Coach Nolen even after all these years still gets excited to get back on the practice field.
