Elderly man shot while trying to fight off would-be robber on Houston's south side

Police say the man had just returned home from a night of bowling late last night when someone walked up to him and held him at gunpoint.

An elderly man was shot outside his house on Houston's south side last night after returning home from bowling.

The victim was held at gunpoint at South Acres and Leitrim Way. Police say the 80-year-old man tried to fight the would-be robber, but was shot in the leg. The suspect got away and remains on the run.

The victim was taken to Ben Taub Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police say the suspect did not take anything.
