Two women dead in Montrose area apartment after SWAT standoff

HOUSTON

Police say at about 1pm they received a call from a woman who was threatening suicide. They say she barricaded herself inside an apartment at the Emerson Court Apartments in the 200 block of Emerson at Garrott.

When officers arrived and attempted to make contact with the woman, they were unsuccessful, so a SWAT team was called to the scene. Their initial efforts to make contact were also unsuccessful.

When police entered the second-story apartment, they found two women dead of apparent gunshots wounds. Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation. The relationship between the women is not yet known, but police say one is elderly.

HPD spokesperson Victor Senties said, "A female suspect herself called, threatening suicide. She was believed to be armed at the time, which was the reason why SWAT was called in. When officers arrived they tried to make contact with her. They were unable to. SWAT was called in, given the fact that it was believed that she was barricaded and she was armed. After trying to make contact with her, SWAT made entry into the apartment. At that time when they made entry, they found two females dead of apparent gunshot wounds."

A police investigation is active at the scene. The medical examiner's office has been called to the scene as well to determine official cause of death.
