Macy's, Kroger at center of equal pay law fallout

HOUSTON

Progress Texas, an advocacy, is urging a boycott of the stores during the tax free weekend for allegedly lobbying to block an equal pay bill.

State Rep. Senfornia Thompson obtained letters to Perry from those stores asking him to veto the bill. Perry did veto the bill, and Thompson believes the stores played a role in that decision.

"It seems to all center around the fact that this was going increase lawsuits and I didn't understand that because if you're following the law and you're doing the things what you should be doing, lawsuits are the last thing that's going to happen to you," she said.

Perry and Kroger both say existing laws allow women to sue in federal court. We have not received a response from Macy's.
