About 40,000 attend Dallas back-to-school fair

DALLAS, TX

The Dallas Morning News 12,760 school supply kits were distributed at the Mayor's Back to School Fair on Thursday.

Each family got a passport upon entering the fair. To receive free school supplies, families collected stickers from the fair booths for each category: community, social, health, city and county, and education.

Paula Blackmon, Mayor Mike Rawlings' chief of staff, says the fair has moved from giving only school supplies to providing health screenings and education to add a "holistic approach" to the fair.

The event is hosted by the city and supported by private donors and corporate sponsors.
