ICE detains 20 people found in southwest Houston apartment

HOUSTON

It all happened at an apartment complex at the West Sam Houston Parkway and Bissonnet.

Houston is considered one of the hotspots for human trafficking in the U.S. and what happened at this apartment complex may be part of that.

At noon Wednesday, an HPD patrol officer approached a man at a nearby parking lot who appeared lost. Backup was called and he led police to the Casa Del Sol apartments, where 20 people were found in one unit.

Agents with the Bureau of Immigration and Custom Enforcement was called and according to the agency, all those people were taken into custody and placed on an immigration bus to be held at an ICE detention facility.

Their nationalities have not been released but an ICE spokesperson says the case is being investigated as human smuggling.
