Vandals use bleach to damage Habitat home in Beaumont

BEAUMONT, TX

Beaumont police say the damage was discovered Wednesday in the future home for Marilyn Dartest.

The Beaumont Enteprise reports Dartest peeped through a window and saw bleach-covered carpets, ketchup smeared on beige walls and broken counters. Police believe canned goods were used to knock holes in the walls of all of the rooms.

Sgt. Rob Flores says the way the house was trashed indicates juveniles are likely to blame. Damage was estimated at $6,000.

Authorities say Habitat for Humanity owns the home and plans to file an insurance claim but group officials fear the repair costs still won't be covered.
