Invasive zebra mussels show up in 4th Texas lake

AUSTIN, TX

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department on Thursday announced zebra mussel larvae have been confirmed in Lake Bridgeport.

Officials last week announced biologists found a zebra mussel near the Lewisville Lake dam. Zebra mussels were discovered last year at Lake Ray Roberts. Zebra mussels turned up at Lake Texoma in 2009.

Texas officials say no settled juvenile or adult zebra mussels have been found in Lake Bridgeport but it's likely that the water has been infested.

Experts say two downstream lakes -- Eagle Mountain and Worth -- are at risk and will be monitored.

Zebra mussels can plug public water supply intake pipes and harm boats and motors. Boaters are urged to clean, drain and dry their vessels.
