Fallen firefighters honored with ceremony at conference in The Woodlands

THE WOODLANDS, TX

Sunday, members paused to honor the four Houston firefighters killed in last month's motel fire.

A memorial to fallen firefighters ended with a bell tolling the signal that a firefighter had gone home.

It's been a difficult year for Texas firefighters with the fire in Houston and the fertilizer plant explosion in West in the past few months.

So far this year, there have been 19 line-of-duty deaths. Officials said an average number is six in a year.

The association also honored more than 100 other firefighters who died last year but not in the line of duty.
