Police were first called to the Mediterra at Westchase Apartments on Hayes near Richmond around 3am.
According to investigators, the man had been fighting with his girlfriend and was armed with a revolver. At some point, he opened fire.
Police said the girlfriend was able to run away. He reportedly chased after her but then ran back into the apartment and locked himself inside.
Some apartments were evacuated as a precaution while officers were at the scene. After a few hours of negotiations, the suspect surrendered peacefully. He faces assault charges.
No one was injured by the gunfire.
