Police: Suspected drunk driver slams into ambulance in southwest Houston

HOUSTON

The accident happened around 12:30am in the intersection of Cook and Bellaire. Authorities say the driver of an SUV ran a red light and crashed into the ambulance.

The ambulance, which was returning to the station and not responding to a call at the time, was knocked over and two HFD paramedics received minor injuries.

The driver of the SUV had his six-month-old baby in the car. Police say he was under the influence. He is charged with felony DWI.

"A felony DWI, because there was a child inside the vehicle and also because of the possible injuries, but he could probably be upgraded," said Sgt. Steven Sorge with the Houston Police Department.

The child was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
