2 arrested after rash of car break-ins in Galveston

GALVESTON, TX

Authorities say eight vehicles parked between 23rd and 89th streets were broken into during a three-hour period Saturday afternoon, according to the Galveston Police Department.

Video from a nearby hotel helped investigator identify the getaway vehicle used in the crime spree, and soon it was spotted by an officer on 23rd and Ave J. When the car was stopped for a traffic violation, the officer saw several purses in plain view.

During a search of the vehicle, officers found several items that had been reported stolen in the eight burglaries, including iPads, computers, game systems, purses, cash, and firearms.

The vehicle was towed and the two men were arrested on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and are being held on $80,000 each.

Detectives say more charges may be filed against the suspects.
