Houston PetSet celebrating 10 years of giving to Houston-area animal charities; 2013 gifting event set for August 28

HOUSTON

Houston PetSet is an all-volunteer umbrella organization dedicated to making a difference by providing grants to animal welfare-related nonprofits in the Greater Houston area.

PetSet's motto is "For the Animals," and volunteers say that's the driving force behind their community efforts. In addition to providing grants, PetSet sometimes offers emergency funding to animal nonprofits in crisis situations, and they support area rescue groups year-round by promoting local fundraising events on their website and social media.

In 10 years, the organization has gifted more than $750,000 to Houston-area animal shelters, rescues and other animal-focused charities.

PetSet is giving again this year. More than two dozen nonprofits submitted grant applications for 2013. They will announce the names of this year's recipients at their annual gifting event -- 6-8pm August 28 at SAKS Fifth Avenue at the Houston Galleria.

The 2012 grant recipients included Citizens for Animal Protection (CAP), Spay and Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP), Red Collar Rescue, Crime Stoppers of Houston, Rescue Bank Houston, Scout's Honor Rescue, Buster's Friends Animal Rescue, PAWS Houston, Golden Beginnings Golden Retriever Rescue of Houston, Friends of Montgomery County Animal Shelter and Boston Terrier Rescue of Greater Houston.
