Suspect opens fire on HPD officer during chase

A search is underway for two people. One of them opened fire on police during a chase in northwest Houston overnight.

According to police, it all started with an attempted traffic stop. An officer tried to pull an SUV over at Pitner and Roma.

The suspects didn't stop. Instead, they drove a few blocks and bailed out in the 8600 block of Rayson. At that point, police say one of the suspects fired at the officer in pursuit before the men disappeared into the darkness.

Officers searched the area by helicopter and with K-9 units, but didn't find the suspects.

From what we heard over the police radios, officers are looking for two young men, possibly teenagers. We also heard one report that officers recovered a gun and two masks near a dumpster, but police have not yet confirmed that.
