Texas lawyer gets 3 years, shot at census worker

GEORGETOWN, TX

Jurors in Georgetown on Tuesday decided the penalty for 56-year-old Carolyn Barnes of Leander in the May 2010 incident. Barnes on Monday was convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for firing several shots at the census worker, who wasn't hurt.

The Austin American-Statesman reports a prosecutor told jurors that Barnes also wouldn't let deputies who were investigating the incident into her house.

Census worker Kathleen Getter testified she was trying to get the house number at the attorney's home when she heard a gunshot and saw Barnes pointing a handgun at her.
