Texas lawyer guilty of shooting at census worker

GEORGETOWN, TX

A jury on Georgetown on Tuesday considers the penalty for 56-year-old Carolyn Barnes of Leander, who faces up to 20 years in prison. Barnes was convicted Monday of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Census employee Kathleen Gittel testified Barnes fired five shots as the government worker tried to verify the lawyer's house number. Gittel told jurors that Barnes yelled to get off her property.

An attorney for Barnes told jurors that no bullets were recovered and gunpowder tests were not done on his client.
