Thieves ram store with truck to steal ATM

HOUSTON

It happened at a store on Eastland near North Wayside. The store owner says surveillance video captured the suspects cutting the lock on a metal cover and then backing up into the front of the store with a pickup truck, crashing through the glass.

The thieves then grabbed the store's ATM and took off, taking part of the door frame with them as they left.

The store owner, who didn't want to be identified, said he got a phone call at 2am.

"I was sleeping in bed about 2am. When you hear the phone ring, I already knew. When you hear the phone ring about 2, you know," said the store owner.

The owner took pretty much every measure he could to protect his store with the metal covering and concrete pillars in front of the doors. He said it's all very frustrating, but there's not much else he can do but fix the damage.

This is the second such break-in as many days. Thieves smashed into a Valero store in northwest Houston yesterday morning. In that case, they also targeted the ATM, but they drove off empty handed.
