Former VP of Lubbock hospital faces federal charge

LUBBOCK, TX

Prosecutors on Monday charged Greg Bruce with one count of mail fraud and aiding and abetting involving a $9,701 invoice he allegedly sent to University Medical Center. The invoice was paid in January 2011.

The hospital, in a statement, said officials have determined that Bruce could have embezzled as much as $735,000 from the health care system over several years.

In a statement Monday, Bruce said he has cooperated with authorities since shortly after the hospital did an audit in November 2011.

Bruce was a vice president at the hospital for five years. He resigned in December 2011.

If convicted, Bruce faces up to 20 years in prison.
