HPD officer shoots armed suspect in west Houston

A Houston police officer shot a suspect while trying to serve a warrant in west Houston.

According to an HPD spokesperson, at about 1pm, the West Side Tactical Unit tried to serve a warrant for cruelty to animals at a home in the 12700 block of Brant Rock near Dairy Ashford. The officers knocked and announced themselves, and the suspect reportedly answered the door armed with a gun.

The officers feared for their safety and one officer opened fire, striking the suspect multiple times.

The suspect was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in unknown condition. The officers were not injured.

The shooting remains under investigation.
