The discovery was made on Almeda Genoa near Almeda.
"I feel like it that's a family member. That could be my mom or anybody years ago, you know. It's just sad," said eyewitness Denise Dalcoe.
The gravestone is from 1874 and says 'mother' with the name Mary E. The last name was broken off.
Right now, it's unknown if the headstone was broken by accident and washed there from a flood or if it was an act of vandalism.
Houston police are investigating.
