Suspect arrested, 3 others sought in fatal shooting of woman, young boy in Alief

HOUSTON

Investigators say the victims were executed and the boy's father was wounded in the May 13 shooting on Westwick in the Alief area.

Police now have one man in custody and they're looking to arrest others. They won't tell us how they cracked this case out of concern that doing so might jeopardize the investigation.

Houston police arrested Bobby Austin on Friday. He is believed to be the driver who helped the gunmen get away last Monday from the murder scene in the 6600 block of Westwick. He is now charged with capital murder. Police say Austin, 23, has confessed to his involvement.

Brandon Vu, 10, and Le Nguyen, 29, were killed at the home. Police say each was shot in the head and were innocent bystanders. The boy's father, Hoai Vu, was shot and critically wounded in the attack at the family home. Police tell us Vu, 40, was dealing in marijuana.

"No matter what business Mr. Vu was in, in no way should that transcend to Brandon Vu who is 10 years old and Ms. Nguyen. They're completely innocent," said HPD Sgt. Colin Howard.

Investigators have also charged Jerome Dewon Godine with capital murder. Godine, 22, is not in custody.

Two other men -- Desmenn Demond Simon, aka 'Torch,' and Donte Earls, aka 'Tay'-- are wanted for questioning in the case.

Police won't reveal how they came across information on all the men. We know one investigative key was discovering the getaway vehicle -- what police first described as a silver or gray sedan captured by a neighbor's surveillance camera leaving the scene.

Police found that car and it turns out to be a silver Monte Carlo which they say belongs to Austin.

Now they need your help in locating the others.

"These guys are out there. The bottom line is they murdered a 10-year-old child, so what we need is the public's help," said HPD Sgt. W.L. Meeler.

Hoai Vu, 40, remains in critical condition at Memorial Hermann Hospital.
