The department started in 1953 with seven volunteers and was funded through donations.
It's grown to serve 120,000 people in an area of 110 square miles.
While the 200 volunteer firefighters continue to be the backbone of the agency, there are now eight full-time and 40 part-time firefighters.
"During the day, we have four stations that are staffed. At night, we have our volunteers that do nighttime staffing. So they're staffing two stations at night. And it provides a better service ultimately to the entire community," Deputy Chief Scott Schoonover said.
Last month, the Texas Senate issued a proclamation honoring the department on its six decades of service.
