School district considers $1 million scoreboard

WESLACO, TX

The McAllen Monitor reports that trustees for the Weslaco Independent School District on the U.S.-Mexico border could vote at their meeting Monday night to upgrade to a 1,296-square-foot screen at their football stadium.

Steve Valdez, the school district's director of instructional television, told trustees at a workshop last week the screen would be the state's biggest. He said they would pay it off over 10 years with advertising revenue.

The current screen in Weslaco is 252 square feet.

The new one would edge out the 1,200-square-foot screen that debuted last season at Carthage High School.
