Houston HSI shuts down 10 websites selling counterfeit cycling products

HOUSTON

Special agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) say last week they seized 10 domain names that were illegally selling counterfeit high-end carbon bike frames, apparel and cycling shoes.

Officials say they also identified PayPal accounts used by the infringing websites and are targeted more than $90,000 in proceeds received through those accounts.

Here's the list of Houston domain names seized:

  • Ecyclingonline.com
  • Cycleoutfit.com
  • Ecyclingjerseys.com
  • Bike-jersey.com
  • Cycling-outfit.com
  • Teamscycling.com
  • Samewood.com
  • Cycling-jersey.net
  • Cyclingyong.com
  • Yongcycling.com

The seized domain names are now in the custody of the U.S. government. Visitors typing those domain names into their web browsers will now find a banner that notifies them of the seizure.

Houston HSI special agents worked closely with companies that manufacture cycling products to include Specialized and INVISTA (owners of the COOLMAX® and LYCRA® brands).

The agency says the counterfeit items can cause serious injury, and sales of such items not only harm a company's reputation but threaten American jobs.
