Man at large after allegedly shooting ex-girlfriend in Baytown

HOUSTON

Around 1pm, shots rang out from the house in the 5200 block of Golden near Redell, startling neighbor Melinda Smith.

"It's scary because this is a quiet neighborhood," Smith said. "I've lived in this neighborhood for like 30 years and never had this problem."

Deputies quickly arrived on the scene and reportedly discovered that a man forced himself into the home of his ex-girlfriend and allegedly shot her in the arm. After the shooting, he fled. The victim, who has not been identified, was rushed to Memorial Hermann Hospital via Life Flight.

"Witnesses said after the shooting the suspect entered the vehicle and fled the scene," HCSO Sgt. Gary Harrison said. "Upon us doing a follow-up investigation, the vehicle was located but the suspect was gone."

Law enforcement sources say the man they are looking for is Christopher Haynes. He was last seen driving away in his own Ford Focus.

Court records show Haynes is currently on probation for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in an unrelated case. Neighbors say it's not the first time there have been problems at that home.

"I don't know; I can't believe it. I don't want my little sister out here no more; it's not safe," Karla Aguilar said. "It hasn't been safe for a while, but it hasn't gotten that bad until now."

No one in the victim's family wanted to talk, but even deputies on scene admit they have visited the house on several occasions before. They are currently focused on finding the ex-boyfriend while the woman recovers.

If you know the whereabouts of the suspect, you are asked to call HCSO.
