Ex-court clerk in Galveston gets probation in gun case

GALVESTON, TX

Jason Elroy Murray in 2010 was elected Galveston County district clerk but resigned last spring amid legal troubles with his spouse. The couple's divorce became final in October.

Murray on Thursday pleaded no contest to using a gun to assault his wife in April 2011. He also pleaded guilty to misdemeanor family assault in a December 2011 incident.

A visiting judge sentenced Murray to eight years of deferred adjudication probation and ordered him to wear an ankle monitor for 30 months.

Murray last July was sentenced to 250 days in jail for violating probation by not staying away from his wife in a previous assault case.
