Former UH star D.J. Hayden gets to thank life-savers

HOUSTON

On Tuesday, Hayden and his mom, Tori, got to meet up with the members of the Houston Fire Department who helped save his life last November.

Hayden was involved in collision during a play in practice. It didn't look like much, but the artery that carries blood to the lower part of his body was severed. Crews from Station 18 and 25 responded and saved Hayden's life.

"I just want to thank them for doing their job so good, just helping save my life and I just really appreciate it," said Hayden.

"It's awesome," said Bobby Delgado with the Houston Fire Department. "Rarely does anyone come back and give thanks for the job we do and that's fine. This is kind of special for us."

"I'm just glad that we get the opportunity, DJ and I, to say thank you," said Tori. "Thank you from the bottom of our hearts."
