Concealed weapons could be allowed in more places

AUSTIN, TX

The House Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee has scheduled a Thursday hearing on the bill by Rep. Drew Springer, a freshman Republican from Muenster.

Springer's bill effectively rolls back most restrictions on Texas' nearly 500,000 concealed handgun license holders, including bans on carrying guns into hospitals, nursing homes and college classrooms.

The bill is just one of several this legislative session by gun rights activists seeking to expand privileges of CHL holders. Springer's bill attempts to make some of the most sweeping changes.

The same House panel recently endorsed a bill allowing concealed handguns in college classrooms.
