University of Houston alert: Police on lookout for armed robber near campus

HOUSTON

They are on the lookout for an armed man and three accomplices who robbed two students at an apartment at Cambridge Oaks. The apartment complex is on the outskirts of the U of H campus and directly across the street from the campus police headquarters.

It happened around 9:30pm Saturday. Officials say a man pointed a black semi-automatic handgun to get inside the apartment where residents were studying and stole their wallets before escaping. The suspect then threatened to shoot both residents if they left their apartment.

The university is asking its students to be alert and cautious of their surroundings.

A campus alert went out, urging all students to stay in groups and not to walk alone, especially in the dark. Notice details if you are victimized.

Try to stay calm and note everything possible about the suspect and vehicle. Use the emergency call boxes around campus. There are 70 of them. They alert central dispatch and report the incident immediately by calling 911.

The suspect is described as a black male with a light complexion, and he was about 5 feet tall with a medium build. He was wearing a red jacket and black pants.

There are three additional suspects, but there are no descriptions available on them at this time.
