Meeting could narrow options for Astrodome's future

HOUSTON

The Harris County Sports and Convention Corporation has scheduled a meeting next week to narrow down some of the options for the 48-year-old Houston landmark.

But that doesn't necessarily mean they will decide on one solution.

The Harris County Commissioners Court will make a decision after they hear from the the sports and convention corporation during a capital improvement plan hearing scheduled on June 25.

The current proposals include bulldozing it and building a parking lot in its place. The NFL has said that would certainly enhance Houston's opportunity to get another Super Bowl.

The Harris County Commissioners Court has said the NFL and the Super Bowl will have no bearing on what it does with the historic landmark.

After the June 25 meeting, there's no deadline for Commissioners Court to ultimately decide which of those proposals it will select.
