University of St. Thomas campus now safe, will reopen after classes were canceled due to threat

HOUSTON

The university suspended classes and events following a second bomb threat to the campus. UST received an email bomb threat for the Doherty Library Thursday morning, then a second threat was called in to Harris County Sherrif's Office later in the morning.

Doherty Library and Link-Lee Mansion were evacuated and searched by a Houston Police Department bomb sniffing dog. In cooperation with HPD, University Security swept and cleared all buildings.

The University sent an all-clear notice to faculty, staff and students at 1:30pm.

"We have taken actions this morning to protect the community," University President Dr. Robert Ivany said. "Now that all university classrooms, offices and residence halls have been cleared, we will resume classes and activities at 3:30 p.m."

The Research Symposium will resume at 4 p.m. Classes will resume at 5:30 p.m. Residents in Guinan and Young halls may return at 3:30 p.m.

UST first deployed the emergency notification system to faculty, staff and students at 8:31am following the first threat. In a second ENS notice sent at 10:09am, the university urged all faculty, staff and students to evacuate campus immediately, until further notice.
