Students recovering after Lone Star College stabbing

HOUSTON

One of the victims tells us the suspect was aiming directly for the victims' necks. She was able to fight back and get away but one family tells us their loved one, who's still in the hospital, was caught off guard.

"When she said Andrea got stabbed here at school I screamed. I said, 'What?!'" Angie Babauta said.

That frantic phone call was about Babauta's granddaughter Andrea Cervantes, who was gushing blood after she'd been stabbed in the neck. Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies say the attacker was 20-year-old Dylan Andrew Quick.

"She was able to speak, she was bleeding profusely," said her uncle, Ray Babauta.

But Cervantes was someone able to call her uncle and explain what happened as she sat outside her biology class at the Lone Star College-Cy-Fair campus.

"She looked up and the guy was in her face, and he lunged at her. She thought he punched her so she was in shock," ???? said.

So he says Cervantes first tried to run after him.

"But then her friends held her back and said wait a minute, you're bleeding and she looked down and she saw her shirt was just covered in blood; blood just started spewing out of her neck," Ray Babauta said.

Then, she looked around and saw...

"There were other students just laying on the ground, laying around," Ray Babauta said.

Investigators say Quick attacked 14 people, some of them with critical injuries and airlifted to the hospital. Others, like Michelle Alvarez, suffered minor injuries.

"He was just running and he was just, wherever he went, he just wanted to hurt people. He just wanted to stab them," Alvarez.

Cervantes and four other are still in the hospital, but her family is grateful because they say it could have been worse.

"She said hang in there grandma, I'm hanging in there also," Ray Babauta said.

A total of five victims remained hospitalized Tuesday night. Two of them are in critical condition.
