Neighbors who called us are complaining about trains that run along Root Road. They say the trains constantly wake them up at night.
At a new subdivision off Root Road in Klein, there's plenty of noise from daytime construction. But it's a different sound that's bugging some new neighbors especially overnight.
Homeowner Diane Beilgard explained, "It's mainly the train horns."
Diane and her husband took home video of the train noise they say they're dealing with from nearby Root Road. They say it's becoming a nightly nuisance.
"They are constantly running back and forth, sometimes it's every 30 minutes, sometimes it's an hour interval, sometimes it's 15 minute intervals," Beilgard said.
Beilgard says the train horns are often blaring so loud and so long that the noise typically wakes them from sleep every night. Beilgard told me she and some of her neighbors have been discussing having the area deemed a quiet zone like they've seen in other parts of Harris County, but they weren't sure how to proceed.
I did some checking and according to Union Pacific and the Federal Railroad Administration all trains are required to sound horns, as a warning device, at least 15 seconds before a crossing. There are several crossings near Beilgard's home.
We also learned establishing quiet zones can be a lengthy and expensive process for public agencies. So far Harris County commissioners say they've received no formal request to look into the issues in this area.
Beilgard says she'll continue pursuing her quest for a quiet zone, if it means getting a peaceful night's sleep. Some neighbors told me they've learned to just block out the train noise.
