Freestone County Sheriff allegedly falsified training records

FAIRFIELD, TX

The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education said Monday that several deputies were given credit for training they did not complete.

Sheriff Thomas Anderson was indicted last week and turned himself in to authorities. Indictments in the case contend the falsified reports were submitted beginning in September 2011. Anderson only took office in January but the commission says he was previously the department's training officer. Also indicted was sheriff's Capt. Travis Robertson. They each are charged with multiple counts of tampering with government records. Online courts records do not indicate attorneys for the men.

Freestone County is about 80 miles southeast of Dallas.
