Marfreless, iconic Houston lounge in River Oaks, closes its doors after 40 years

HOUSTON

The 40-year-old River Oaks lounge was known as a make-out bar. It has no sign out front. Patrons only recognize it by its iconic blue door.

The owners say they couldn't afford the bar's lease anymore but they're hoping to move the bar someplace else, possibly downtown.

"You have to say goodbye to it. We're all talking about what happened here over the years and all the funny stories," said co-owner Michael Wells.

"We've got a lot of leads on some really great places and we're looking all over the city for the right place," Jenifer Cramer said.

Before turning off the lights early Sunday, the owner sold most of the furniture and artwork at the bar.
