Local Catholics march in the Way of Cross procession for Good Friday

HOUSTON

During the annual Holy Week event, a group of Catholics makes five stops to honor what's called the Passion of the Christ.

These Christians gathered at the Chapel of St. Basil at the University of St. Thomas campus this morning as their starting point, then walked a 2-mile journey through Midtown and downtown Houston, stopping at faith-based landmarks and churches along the way doing the Stations of the Cross.

All the while, they are recounting Jesus' journey after his condemnation and his eventual crucifixion.

"It reminds me especially of what Good Friday is all about. You know, Good Friday's like, oh, it's a day off from work, oh, it's a holiday. It's a day for you to remember that someone loved you enough to suffer tremendously and he had no one to comfort him at times. So I think every step you take is a way to try to right that wrong," said Tashina Cooper.

Robert Ivany, President of the University of St. Thomas, told us, "There's a growing love of the Lord that shows itself in young people, and you can see there's an awful lot of young people here -- university age as well as all the way down to preschool."

The event was free and open to the public.
