Prosecutors in Del Rio say Jose Luis Aguilar of Eagle Pass pleaded guilty Wednesday to aiding and abetting bulk cash smuggling. Co-defendant David Gelacio earlier pleaded guilty to the same charge.
Both await sentencing involving $13,000 in undeclared cash they split and then transported across the Mexican border for Maverick County Commissioner Rodolfo "Rudy" Heredia. Prosecutors say Heredia sold a truck in Mexico to individuals associated with a drug cartel.
Any funds of more than $10,000 must be declared when crossing into the U.S.
Heredia was indicted last year in the money laundering case. He was indicted in January on bribery counts in a county bid-rigging investigation.
